Augmented reality overlaps the reconstructions over the ruins giving the sense of how it was and how it is today. Good morning Carmen, our augmented reality tour is based on the idea of AR Glasses technology that improves the interpretation of the site during the explanations. We left Pompeii having learnt nothing and feeling gutted we did not book a better tour for the same price. However, without a tour guide, it was very hard to understand any of the history behind the ruins. The AR parts are few and far between and doesn’t cover a lot and missed most of the major landmarks as a result and had to walk round after the tour to revisit. The AR videos felt more like disjointed clips rather than an experience, especially as our tour guide provided little to no context. The AR element of the tour was ok, was cool to see how the buildings used to look at first however, there were only around 6 or so spots where we put on the glasses and the videos were only 30 sec long - nothing you wouldn’t be able to find on YouTube. We found ourselves eavesdropping on other tours as they were more engaging. This was particularly frustrating as we seen many other tours stop to explain in detail the history and facts behind each landmark which we just ignored and walked straight past. Our tour guide essentially took us from spot to spot to watch the AR videos, with very little effort to explain anything. We were looking forward to the experience after reading many positive reviews however the tour was ultimately very disappointing.
